Overview

Royal Isabela sits on rocky cliffs roughly 200 feet above the Atlantic on Puerto Rico's dry northwest coast — a setting Golf Digest ranks alongside Cabot Saint Lucia and Playa Grande as one of the most dramatic golf sites in the Caribbean. Brothers Stanley and Charlie Pasarell spent years walking the raw property before routing the course, and the result is a strange, wonderful brew: a Pete Dye-style island par 3, a hole that forks into either a par 4 or a par 5 depending which fairway you choose, and a back nine where seven of nine holes stare straight at the ocean into a steady, punishing trade wind. It is remote — roughly two hours from San Juan — and unapologetically a project still finishing itself, which shows up in mixed reviews of conditioning even as the routing and views draw universal praise.

Recognition: #1 in Puerto Rico (Golf Digest, 2022)
