Trip cost calculator
Three sample budgets
These use the same formula as the calculator with our default assumptions (two golfers, shared room, one car).
| Style | Trip | Avg green fee | Total (2 golfers) | Per person |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget loop | 2 golfers, 4 nights, 4 rounds each | $50 | $2,835 | $1,418 |
| Classic resort | 2 golfers, 4 nights, 3 rounds each | $200 | $4,641 | $2,320 |
| Luxury escape | 2 golfers, 3 nights, 2 rounds each | $290 | $6,800 | $3,400 |
Where the assumptions come from
- Green fees: the reported ranges on our green fee guide: about $40 to $65 for budget rounds, about $150 to $250 at resort courses and $290 or more at TPC Dorado Beach East.
- Hotels: value about $170, resort about $349 and luxury about $1,000. Sample listings run from about $277 (Hyatt, December) to $740 (Rio Mar, March).
- Flights and car: an older GOLF.com budget trip found round-trip fares of roughly $204 to $385 from the East Coast and a midsize rental for $89 over a long weekend (2020). We use higher figures to reflect today’s prices.
- Food: a mix of resort and local meals; lechoneras and kiosks cost far less than resort dining (see our 19th hole guide).
Seven ways to lower the total
- Travel in the May to June shoulder season or in autumn (see best time to golf).
- Mix one premium round with budget rounds from our cheap golf guide.
- Share rooms and a car; resorts and rentals are priced per room or vehicle.
- Ask for stay-and-play packages.
- Book twilight tee times where offered.
- Walk where allowed (Punta Borinquen) and skip caddies on shorter courses.
- Check the Discover Puerto Rico availability calendar to find lodging gaps up to three months ahead.
