How to pick a golf base in Puerto Rico
- Decide how many courses you want to play. If you want variety, base yourself in the Río Grande / Dorado corridor — Bahia Beach, Rio Mar, Grand Reserve, Berwind and TPC Dorado Beach are all within roughly 30–45 minutes of each other.
- Ask about stay-and-play packages. Most of these resorts bundle discounted green fees with your room rate, especially outside peak winter season.
- Factor in the drive for Royal Isabela and Costa Caribe. Both are worth the trip, but they’re 1.5–2 hours from San Juan — consider an overnight rather than a day trip. Royal Isabela is private: you must stay at the lodge to play.
- Confirm resort-guest tee time priority. At the busiest courses (TPC Dorado Beach, Bahia Beach) staying on property meaningfully improves your odds of a prime tee time.
